Lake park is home to a few significant structures with an interesting local history.  The large sculpture commemorates Erastus B. Wolcott, besides fighting for the north in the Civil War and raising to the rank of Brigadier General he was one of the first surgeons to successfully remove a diseased kidney. Arguably equally impressive is Wolcotts wife Dr. Laura Ross, who was the first female doctor in Milwaukee and only the third registered female doctor in the United States.
